Delete Your Account

You can delete your Ottermates account and the things you wrote at any time, from inside the app or by writing to us. This page says exactly how, what disappears, and the two things that do not.

Deleting your account from inside the app

If you still have Ottermates installed, this is the fastest route and it takes effect immediately.

1. Open Ottermates and go to the Settings tab
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account
3. Confirm when you are asked

Your account and everything listed below are removed straight away. This cannot be undone, and you do not need to email anyone to do it.

If you have already uninstalled the app

You do not need to reinstall Ottermates to delete your account. Write to us and we will do it for you.

• Email hello@ottermates.app with the subject Delete my account
• Send it from the email address you signed in with, so we can check the request is really yours
• Tell us whether you used Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google

We action every request within 30 days, and in practice usually within a few working days. We confirm by email once it is done.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

• Your profile: your display name, your otter and its name
• The answers you wrote, and the memory notes you wrote
• Your reactions and the questions you saved
• What you told us when you set up your raft, which is your relationship goal, how long you have been together, and whether you are long distance
• Your streak, pebbles and kelp saves
• Your notification settings and the push token for every device you used
• Your pairing, which also unpairs you from your partner
• The sign-in identifier Apple or Google gave us

What we keep, and why

Two things survive deleting your account. Both are deliberate, and both are explained in the Privacy Policy.

What your partner wrote

Ottermates is a conversation between two people. Your partner's own answers and notes stay in their account, because those are their words, not yours, and deleting your account should not delete someone else's writing. What they can no longer see is anything of yours.

Purchase records

Subscriptions are handled by Apple and Google, never by us, and we never hold your payment details. Records of a transaction are retained by the relevant app store, and by us only where tax and accounting law requires it. Those records are not linked to anything you wrote.

Aggregate figures that cannot be traced back to you, and contain no personal information, are also kept.

Cancelling a subscription is separate

Deleting your Ottermates account does not cancel an active subscription, because we do not control your billing. Cancel it first in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, otherwise it may keep renewing.
